The Bobby Podkazz

With social media showing hundreds of thousands of people with appearances that many call perfect, it's hard not to compare yourself. Seeing an attractive people on Instagram or reality television with amazing bodies will either impress you or depress you because you don't look like that. Trying to achieve a "perfect physique" is an unrealistic expectation that's placed on all of us. We go to the gym seven days a week, take more vitamins and supplements then a middle aged man, and do every life hack on TikTok but still don't see the immediate results we want. In more extreme cases people will restrict their diet and see food as harmful.

The Bobby PodKazz is a podcast staring Bobby Kasmire, a young college student who shares his experience living with an eating disorder or ed. Bobby began his podcast in late August of 2021 with his first episode where he describes how his journey with an eating disorder began at the young age of six. It started on his sixth birthday when his peers made comments about his weight, without even wishing him a happy birthday first. This experience while it may seem mild is what kickstarted his journey of having an unhealthy relationship with food and comparing how his body looked different from others. During elementary school and middle school, Bobby with little to no knowledge about how to lose weight, would try anything regardless of how ridiculous it was, to lose weight like drinking tones of orange juice. Once he got to his senior year of high school and freshman year of college he began binge eating. After the binging stopped, Bobby would go to his college's fitness center to do cardio for hours to burn off the food he ate. Bobby's journey to realizing that he had an unhealthy relationship with food was a long and difficult one, but eventually one day he decided to listen to his body and take a break from exercising to just relax and eat normally. Seeing how food is something that isn't automatically bad and that our bodies actually need it is where Bobby's turning point started. It's thanks to his battle with an eating disorder that Bobby switched his major from journalism to nutrition, and began to share his journey on social media. TikTok is really where Bobby started to share eating disorder awareness videos and "what I eat during the day" videos to be a voice on social media especially for guys. Eating disorders already carry a harmful stigma around them, but it can be more difficult for guys to feel comfortable to speak up and seek help.

Listen to the Bobby PodKazz to hear Bobby discuss finding a healthy balance between food and staying healthy while also being in college. He's featured guest who also struggle with finding a healthy relationship with food. Some of these guest include Natalie Ludwig, Tracesoats, Will Knapp, and Nico Felich. Nico, Bobby's first recurring guest who was also in the most recent podcast episode, is a fellow college student majoring in nutrition and health science after working to overcome his eating disorder. Although Bobby has made great progress in his recover it should be noted that his journey and battle isn't finished yet.

  1. This really does feel like something I would want to check out so I can see the perspective of someone trying to balance something I don't even really think about in my personal life. I will admit, I am quite ignorant on the topic of eating disorders, so it was inspiring to read about Bobby's challenges and change of perspective over the meaning of food over time. Really cool to see his whole major and career switch into nutrition as well.
